Established in 1912 by David T. Nederlander, the Nederlander’s collectively operate one of the largest live entertainment organizations in the world. Through three generations, the Nederlander’s expertise covers the gamut of theatre management and operations, and all facets of live entertainment, including ticketing, management, promotion, marketing, and advertising. The Nederlander’s are regarded as one of the most important leaders in the international theatre performing industry.

The Nederlander Producing Company of America, under the direction of James M. Nederlander and James L. Nederlander, owns and/or operates a network of dozens of theatres in cities such as New York, London, Chicago and Los Angeles. On Broadway, Mr. Nederlander operates 9 theatres, currently home to Broadway’s most outstanding productions, such as Disney’s Lion King, Tarzan and Beauty and the Beast, Hairspray, Rent, Drowsy Chaperone, A Moon For The Misbegotten, Legally Blonde and Wicked, currently Broadway’s most successful production playing to over 14,000 patrons and grossing $1.4 million each week. In 2004, Nederlander theatres presented approximately 50 individual Broadway musical productions to an audience of over 5 million people.

In addition to the Nederlander’s access to and presentation of shows produced by other producers, James M. Nederlander has successfully invested in or produced the very best in live theatrical entertainment. Mr. Nederlander’s shows have garnered numerous honors, including Tony Awards, Drama Desk Awards, Outer Critics Circle Awards, Grammy Awards and others.

The Nederlander’s unparalleled expertise has also expanded into related areas of live entertainment including concerts, sports and broadcast television and cable production. Robert Nederlander, Sr helped develop the outdoor amphitheatre business as it is known today, leading the construction of several such concert facilities across the United States. In addition to managing Nederlander venues in San Francisco and Detroit, he is a partner in the New York Yankees, serving as its managing general partner in 1990 and 1991. Additionally, Mr. Nederlander managed the Nederlander’s efforts to produce award-winning programs for cable and network television.

Members of the Nederlander family have held leadership positions in public and private companies in sports, finance and real estate, among many others.
